The holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of the Muslims ending Ramadan fasting, is being celebrated across the country on Tuesday amid religious fervour and enthusiasm.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have greeted the countrymen and Muslims across the world on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, reports BSS.
In separate messages, they wished peace, progress and prosperity for all.
The main Eid congregation in the capital was held at the National Eidgah, adjacent to the premises of the Supreme Court, at 8:30am.
Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Professor Maulana Mohammad Salah Uddin conducted the Eid jamaat as the main Imam while Mufti Maulana Mohammad Abdullah was there as alternative Imam.
Five Eid jamaats are scheduled to be held at the Baitul Muqarram National Mosque - at 7am, 8am, 9 am, 10am amd 11am.
Another Eid jamaat was held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 8am.
Some 668 more Eid congregations are scheduled to be held at different areas in Dhaka city.
Law enforcing agencies including the Police and Rapid Action Battalion will remain on guard to ensure security at Eid congregations.
The government has chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr with due respect and in a smooth manner.
National flags are hoisted at government, autonomous and non-government offices and all military establishments.
National flags and flags inscribed with "Eid Mubarak' have been installed at important traffic islands and light posts in Dhaka city.
Besides, designated government offices and military established are illuminated on the night following the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private television channels are airing special programmes and newspapers have published supplements on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. Improved diets are being served in hospitals and jails.
The day is also being observed in Bangladesh missions abroad too in a befitting manner.
