The High Court yesterday exempted three public servants from personal appearance after they placed affidavit stating that an alleged rape of a garment worker in Mirpur was cooked up.
The court said if it was convinced that the incident was forged, it would direct appropriate legal action against the so-called victim and the informer, said plaintiff’s lawyer Abdul Halim.
Halim also said the court apparently found the incident fictitious, as the victim’s statement given to a lower court was inconsistent with actual facts.
Medical report prepared by Dr Shamima Haque, coordinator of the One-Stop Crisis Centre at DMCH, said although the victim had signs of sexual intercourse, they did not prove that force was applied.
Responding to a writ petition by Children Charity Bangladesh Foundation, an HC bench on July 9 summoned Dr Shamima, Imtiaz Ahmed, DC of Mirpur police, and Mirpur police station OC Md Salahuddin. Later, the court fixed September 14 for further hearing over the writ petition.
On July 1, an RMG worker at a Mirpur factory was reported to have been raped on the way back from her workplace.
