Inu: India has accepted maritime verdict

Update : 12 Jul 2014, 06:18 AM

Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu has said India has accepted the verdict in the maritime delimitation case between Dhaka and New Delhi.

He said: “The court awarded Bangladesh 19,467 square kilometres of area out of the total disputed area of 25,602 sq-km in the Bay of Bengal delimitation case. The verdict of the Permanent Court of Arbitration had gone in favour of Bangladesh. But, India has accepted it.”

“We have got what we deserved.”

The minister made the observation while talking to journalists before attending a discussion at Bheramara Upazila Parishad auditorium in Kushtia on Saturday morning.

Regarding the BNP's remarks over the issue, he said: “We will consider Khaleda Zia's advise over the issue. She can place her opinion on how to review the verdict.”

Criticising Khaleda, Inu said: “Militancy and communism are the worst enemies of democracy. Khaleda Zia has patronised the militancy and communism in the country in the name of establishing democracy.”

“Our government is firm to take strong step against such offenses. We will protect democracy in the country by any means.”
