Cities with longest fasting hours

Since Ramadan comes this year in the north hemisphere during summer, Muslims at regions close to the North Pole will have the longest and hottest days in the year.

This year’s fasting hours are quite long in the Middle East and the majority of Muslim World.

However, in the southern hemisphere, where winter has started on the 21st of June, the fasting day is as short as 10 hours while in the northern hemisphere, it is as long as 20 hours.

The five cities with the longest time between the Fajr and Maghrib prayers at the start of Ramadan on June 29, 2014, and the five cities with the shortest, according to IslamicFinder.org are:

Reykjavik, Iceland: 21 hours, 57 minutes, Stockholm, Sweden: 20 hours, 57 minutes Juneau, Alaska, U.S.A.: 19 hours, 51 minutes London, England: 18 hours, 53 minutes Berlin, Germany: 19 hours, 1 minutes

Shortest:

Sydney, Australia: 9 hours, 56 minutes Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: 12 hours, 4 minutes Jakarta, Indonesia: 13 hours, 1 minute Punta Arenas, Chile: 13 hours, 26 minutes Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: 13 hours, 33 minutes
