BGB’s rejoinder and our reply

Update : 03 Jun 2014, 09:38 PM

On Monday June 2, the Dhaka Tribune published a photograph resourced from Banglar Chokh on the front page.

The photo was captioned: “Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh along with locals dig out mines planted by Myanmar’s Border Guard Police inside Bangladesh Territory in Nikhangchhari upazila’s inaccessible hilly parts in Bandarban yesterday.”

The Border Guard Bangladesh headquarters sent a rejoinder yesterday that reads: “Information of the captioned picture is not true. No such operation was conducted by BGB on that day. HQ BGB feels that publication of such news is done intentionally with a view to hamper our ongoing joint efforts of rebuilding mutual trust and understanding between two neighbouring countries. As such, Headquarters BGB strongly protests the published news.”

The Dhaka Tribune would like to assert that it practises the highest level of professionalism and sincerity in its journalistic endeavours, which in no way are meant to hurt the efforts to rebuilding mutual trust with the neighbouring countries.

The photograph was resourced from the Banglar Chokh. The agency made that photograph available on June 2, but did not mention that it was a file photo taken in the past.

However, the Banglar Chokh yesterday in a letter to the Dhaka Tribune acknowledged its mistake of not mentioning that it was a file photo and was taken a year back. The Dhaka Tribune sincerely apologises for its unintentional mistake.
