The Supreme Court has rejected a writ petition filed by BNP Standing Committee member Moudud Ahmed challenging the legality of filing and proceedings of a graft case.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain passed the order on Wednesday morning.
Earlier on September 16, 2007, the Anti Corruption Commission filed the case with Gulshan Police Station saying that Moudud had properties and wealth worth over Tk 17. 70 crore, but his properties and wealth worth over Tk 9.00 crore was disproportionate to his known source of income.
The case, however, did not specifically mention any amount of his expenditures.
On May 14, 2008, charge sheet was filed against Moudud with a lower court.
Later, the former minister filed a writ petition with the HC challenging the legality of filing and proceedings of the ACC case.
On January 29, 2012, an HC bench stayed the trial proceedings of the case and on October 7 the court rejected the petition.
ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam said: “Now there is no bar to continue the case proceedings against Moudud as the Appellate Division has rejected his plea.”
