A total of 22 Bangladeshi migrants, who were abducted by a gang of human traffickers in Iran, have returned home on Wednesday morning.
A scheduled flight of Emirates carrying the migrant workers arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 8am, Binoy Krishno, executive director of Rights Jessore, said.
They were brought back home with the assistance of Bangladesh embassy in Iran.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Rights Jessore, a non-governmental organisation, worked for the victims of human trafficking to return home, he said.
The victims are Abu Sayed Khan of Chandpur, Aminul Islam of Jamalpur, Md Delu and Aminur Islam of Tangail, Rofiqul Islam of Bogra, Arman Hossain of Companiganj in Noakhali, Jinarul and Md Shahin of Gangni in Meherpur, Aktaruzzaman of Chowgachha in Jessore, Ataur Rahman of Bagerhat, Kamrul Hasan Bhuiyan of Kishoreganj, Akram Fakir of Gopalganj, Sohel Miah of Char Chaburiapara in Narsingdi, Akmal Hossain of Kushtia, Ruhul Amin of Rajbari, Md Tahaz Uddin of Meherpur, Md Nazrul of Sakhipur in Tangail, Mamunur Rashid of Dhamurhat and Shahidul of Badalgachhi in Naogaon and Abdur Razzak, Rohidul Islam of Rajshahi and Sallahuddin.
Relatives of some victims alleged that the migrants were supposed to be sent to Iraq, but they were taken hostage in Iran.
Akther Hossain, brother of Abu Sayed Khan, claimed that Gias Enterprise promised his brother that he would be sent to Iraq as carpenter and would get Tk100,000 as monthly wage. “We gave the agent Tk450,000.”
“But my brother was confined in Iran for three months. He also paid Tk200,00 through bKash,” Hossain added.
Jasmine, sister of Aminul Islam, said her brother was supposed to be sent to Iraq. “We paid Tk500,000 to the manpower agents for sending my brother to that country. As they demanded more money, I sent $300,” she added.
