Rail link with the northern districts of the country that was severed with the derailment of Drutajan Express might not be back by the day, what officials have said.
“Rescue works are underway,” Western Railway General Manager Abdul Awal Bhuiyan said on Monday morning. “Two relief trains from Dhaka and Ishwardi have arrived.”
“However, these trains cannot get on the Bangabandhu bridge. We have to work with hydraulic machineries,” he added. “The lines might not be restored by the day.”
However, he did not specify if the lines will be back by Monday.
Nine bogies of Dinajpur-bound Drutajan Express derailed on the Bangabandhu bridge struck by a nor'wester late on Sunday night. No casualties were incurred.
Railway Minister Mojibul Haque visited the spot and formed a five-member probe committee to investigate the incident. They will have to report within three days.
