A solo exhibition titled Deconstructing by eminent artist Khalid Mahmood Mithu is being held at the Athena Gallery of Fine Arts and will remain on display till May 15. This is his 11th solo exhibition consisting of 101 paintings and is the personal motivation of his artistic proficiencies. The paintings on display are a treat for the art lovers as it offers a wide range of subjects and the use of vibrant and dull colours are fascinatingly in-sync.
His series of work on musical instruments transport the tunes on canvas and his artwork Music of Joy depicts his desire of painting saxophones. It is an attempt to create a resonance through brush strokes. The rough textures give the painting a more dynamic and active look which appears irreducible and charming. On and other hand, Music of Garment’s worker is made evocative by embedding buttons and fabric which will surely capture the attention of the viewers.
Khalid’s artwork A cup of memories is done in such a manner that the painting seems to be in motion. The use of vibrant colours along with light shades and topsy-turvy cups adds movement to the artwork.
His series of artworks Inner Burn addresses the political instability that disrupted the normalcy of everyday life. He incorporates the frightening headlines in his artworks that tells the story of human brutality of that unstable period.
His artistic talents has breached the boundaries of fine arts and the versatile artist has mastered photography and film-making along with other genres of art. Khalid Mahmood Mithu’s recent film Jonakir Alo has been successful in representing the culture of Bangladesh and shows the artist’s intrinsic understanding of the norms of the society.
Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, MP inaugurated the exhibition , Abul Khair Litu, Chairman of Bengal Foundation and US Ambassador Dan W Mozena were present at the inaugural ceremony on April 18.
