Modi as PM: Bangladesh diplomat 'not worried'

Update : 20 Apr 2014, 10:40 AM

There's nothing to worry for neighbouring countries if Narendra Modi becomes India's prime minister, says Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in India.

Mahbub Hassan Saleh, deputy high commissioner of Bangladesh in New Delhi, India, said: "There is no need of worry for the neighbouring countries if the NDA comes to power and Narendra Modi becomes the Prime Minister." The Bangladesh envoy expressed the view while visiting Varanasi, reports Times Of India (TOI).

Saleh, Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in India, in an informal chat with TOI said: "I personally feel that Modi is open in his approach. He talks about development and cordial relationship with all,"

His [Modi's] positive outlook is evident in recent interviews, he said.

He went there on a two-day visit on Saturday to assess the political scene and understand people's mood in view of Lok Sabha elections.

He was keen to assess whether the NDA gets comfortable lead to form its own government without taking support from leaders like Jayalalithaa or Mamta Banerjee.

Modi, prime minister candidate for BJP, and his party has been apparently playing 'Bangladesh card' in a bid to win the voters. Recently Modi said "infiltrators from Bangladesh" must be sent back.

On Friday another leader of BJP, Subramanian Swamy, said Bangladesh should compensate India with land for the influx of its citizens in the country
