Asaduzzaman Khan, State Minister for Home, said all necessary measures have been taken in order to ensure peaceful celebration of Pahela Baishakh.
He said: “All preparations have been completed in the capital city to celebrate Pahela Baishakh, the Bengali New Year 1421, amid huge traditional festivity on Monday."
The minister made the statement on Sunday afternoon after inspecting the security measures at the Ramna Batamul, reported BSS.
Khan said the area has been thoroughly inspected by dog squads and also the bomb detection and disposal units, so that city dwellers can easily join the New Year celebration function.
During his visit at Ramna Batamul area Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmood Khandker, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benzir Ahmed, additional commissioners Sheikh Maruf Hasan and Ibrahim Fatemi and joint commissioner Manirul Islam were present.
"There is no chance of militant attack on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh celebration. All kinds of measures have been taken to ensure security at Ramna Batamul area," the state minister said.
He said law enforcers have taken coordinated efforts to ensure security, so that the 2001 attack at Ramna Batamul by militant that killed some people is not repeated.
Special units including SWAT and security agency personnel will monitor security system at Ramna Park and Rabindra Sarobor areas closely, Khan added.
Besides, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel, bomb disposal unit, dog squad and divers of Bangladesh Navy will also be deployed and metal detector archways would be placed at all major points, he said.
On the occasion, close circuit cameras and observation towers have been installed to ensure on Pahela Baishakh to ensure foolproof security, the state minister said.
Khan, however, said helicopter will also remain standby for emergency rescue operation.
