Bangladesh among top remittance recipients

Bangladesh has retained its position among the top ten remittance receipt countries with $14 billion in remittances in 2013, said the World Bank’s latest issue of the Migration and Development Brief, released on Friday.

According to the press release Bangladesh is 8th on the list while neighbouring India has secured the top position in it with $70 billion in remittances.

Imran: None has the right to relieve me

While expressing his sudden reaction over the issue of relieving him from the responsibility of spokesperson, Gonojagoron Moncho convener Imran H Sarker said no one has the right to discharge him from the position.

Imran came up with the reaction on Saturday noon, immediately after a faction announced that from now on Imran would no longer be the mouthpiece of the anti-war criminal platform.

Khaleda: TV clips prove unfair polls

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has said the live video clips that were telecasted in different private television channels proved that “the January 5 poll was not free and fair at all.”

She made the statement while addressing the council of Jatiyatabadi Shramik Dal at Engineers’ Institute auditorium on Saturday afternoon.

Inu: Khaleda is conspiring

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has alleged that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is conspiring to change the name and history of Bangladesh.

The minister made the statement while inaugurating the two-day children fair in Kushtia on Saturday morning.

15 illegal Malaysia-goers held

Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have detained 15 people while they were trying to migrate to malaysia at Katabunia area under Sabranga union in Teknaf upazila of Cox’ bazar district at the wee hours on Saturday.

Lt Col Abu Zar Al Zahid of Teknaf 42 BGB said a patrol team of BGB arrested them from the area around 4:30am.

Kishoreganj-Dhaka bus strike called off

Kishoreganj District Road Transport Owners’ Association has withdrawn the indefinite bus strike on Kishoreganj-Dhaka route.

“We have called off the strike on condition of holding a meeting with the Owners’ Association of Dhaka on April 16,” Kishoreganj District Road Transport Owners’ Association President Helal Uddin Manik said.

Buses started to ply on the route as soon as the strike was called off.

Maoist attacks kill 12 in India

At least 12 people have been killed in two Maoist attacks in Chhattisgarh, India on Saturday.

Election officials and CRPF jawans were among the people killed in the attacks, reports NDTV.
