A three day event to celebrate the 44th Independence Day of Bangladesh, organised by Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) was held at its Gulshan premises. Three versatile artistes from Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, Tapan Mahmud, Shaheen Samad and Timir Nandy rendered inspirational songs on March 25.
Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra was the radio broadcasting centre of Bengali nationalist forces during Bangladesh’s Liberation War of 1971. This station played a vital role in the liberation struggle, ran a propaganda campaign through the war and broadcast the Declaration of Independence. In 1971, radio was the only form of media reaching to the far ends of Bangladesh.
Tapan Mahmud rendered Swarthak Jonom Amar, Je Tomai Chare Charuk, O Amar Desher Mati and others. Shaheen Samad presented Mora Jhonjhar Moto, Manus Ho, Manush Ho, Manbo Na Bodhon Manbo Na and many more. Additionally, Timir Nandi performed Rokto Diye Naam Likhechi, Shono Ekti Mujiborer Theke and E Amar Jibon. In between their performance, they recalled their valuable memories which were entangled during the Liberation War.
The event concluded with live screening of Ekattorer Jishu, Rabeya and Jibondhuli. The films are based on independence of the country.
