Brother learns about sister's missing flight on Facebook

Update : 08 Mar 2014, 11:25 AM

The brother of a passenger on board of the missing MAS aircraft bound for Beijing from Kuala Lumpur early Saturday, revealed that he learnt about the incident on Facebook, reports Malaysian state-owned news agency Bernama.

Mohd Lokman Hamid, 31, said he learnt that his sister Norli Akmar, 33 and her husband, Mohd Razahan Zamani, 23, were on the flight from her Facebook status, which she posted late last night.

"I know they had been planning to go to Beijing for a holiday, especially after she suffered a miscarriage," he told reporters at his house in Taman Kokitab, Gong Badak.

He said he was shocked this morning when he logged in to his Facebook page and found a friend's status saying that the aircraft, in which his sister and brother-in-law were among the passengers, had gone missing after losing contact with the Subang Air Traffic Control at 2.40 am.

It was scheduled to land in Beijing at 6.30 am.

"I immediately called MAS to verify the story; however they said that they will call me back for confirmation."

"I'm terribly worried as too many speculations have been made about the incident. Some even say that the aircraft has issues with its global positioning system (GPS). I just hope that my sister and brother-in-law, as well as other passengers on board the aircraft are safe," said the second of four siblings.

The couple was among the 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members on board the missing MH370 aircraft.

Thirty-eight of the passengers were from Malaysia, 152 from China, 12 from Indonesia, seven from Australia, three each from France and the United States, two each from New Zealand, Ukraine and Canada, and one each from Russia, Italy, Taiwan, the Netherlands and Austria.
