Bangladesh has extended its sincere gratitude to the Saudi Arabian government for giving a scope for changing 'Aqama' (work permit) and professions to nearly nine lakh Bangladesh workers staying in the kingdom.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina thanked Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abdullah NA Al Bussairy on behalf of her government when he paid a courtesy call on her at her office on Wednesday morning.
After the meeting, PM's Deputy Press Secretary Bijan Lal Deb briefed reporters regarding the matter, reports BSS.
Terming the 'Aqama' decision as unique, Hasina said it will help in removing the long-time plights of Bangladeshi workers staying in the kingdom.
She also expressed the hope that the fraternal relations between both the countries would be strengthened further in the days to come for mutual benefits.
Ambassador-At-Large M Ziauddin, PM's Principal Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder and Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil were present.
Later, the newly-appointed High Commissioner of Brunei to Bangladesh Pengiran Haji Abdul Haris Bin Pengiran Haji Shabudin also called on the Prime Minister at her office.
She said: "We can send more trained manpower from Bangladesh to Brunei, if needed.”
Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh and Brunei can also cooperate with each other to improve bilateral trade and commerce.
The premier said there are many areas where both the countries can share experiences for mutual benefits.
The PM said: "The region has huge resources and we can develop it faster if we work together.”
Praising the sincerity of Bangladeshi workers, the Brunei High Commissioner said they were contributing a lot to the development of economy and infrastructure of Brunei.
He also opined that there was ample scope for enhancing cooperation in different areas between the two countries.
