The main opposition BNP on Sunday demanded for the rearrangement of the 10th general elections claiming that most of the people of the country have rejected the “farcical polls.”
Meanwhile, it also called for a 48-hour countrywide fresh hartal from Monday.
While expressing its reaction over the casting of votes for the 10th general elections, BNP leader Dr M Osman Farrouk made the announcement on Sunday evening, immediately after the pollings end.
He said: "The government has to rearrange the polls as people have boycotted it."
While making the hartal announcement, Osman Farrouk said: “Although people have already rejected the polls by not casting their votes, the main opposition party will continue its indefinite blockade programme under the leadership of the party Chief Khaleda Zia."
"Apart from enforcing the indefinite blockade programme, we will enforce the 48-hour hartal from Monday morning,” he added.
He also thanked the people of the country for “boycotting” the “farcical elections.”
He claimed that the law enforcers have killed some 21 activists of the BNP-led 18-party alliance while they were observing “peaceful” protest across the country.
The opposition leader said the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia has expressed her deep shock and sorrow for the deaths of her party members.
