State-run Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex) is all set to start digging an exploration well at Narayanganj’s “Rupganj” in January next.
“Necessary preparations have been taken to start digging at Rupganj structure from the next month,” Managing Director at Bapex, MA Baki told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.
Once the gas reserve was confirmed, the authorities had planned to set up a six-kilometre-long gas transmission line to feed it to the national grid, he said.
Baki revealed Bapex’s plans to dig several development wells there, given positive results from the experimental well.
The cost of digging the experimental well, under the Rupganj Oil/Gas Exploration Well Digging project was estimated at Tk97 crore.
Director of the project and also the Bapex Deputy General Manager (well testing) Tofayel Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune that the well was situated at Gobindapur village under Rupganj of Narayanganj.
The digging is supposed to finish within 90 days.
“Rupganj is a potential structure. Necessary preparations for digging well, like setting up rig and other necessary machineries have been completed.” he said.
“We will dig with rig (IDECO H-1700)which has a vertical drilling capacity of 3,500 meter. We have plans to go up to 3,700 metres below the surface.”
Bapex is currently producing and supplying 110 million cubic feet gas to the national grid every day from its six gas fields in Saldanadi, Fenchuganj, Shahbazpur, Semutung, Sundalpur and Srikail.
