Two central committee leaders of the Workers Party of Bangladesh, Mozammel Haque Tara and Ragib Ahsan Bhuiyan, have resigned protesting the party chief’s decision of contesting in the “one-sided” parliamentary election.
In a press statement yesterday, they said: “Rashed Khan Menon, the president of the party, earlier said the level playing field of the election would be tarnished if the national parliamentary polls were held with an active parliament, however, now he was gradually deviating from his own words.”
The statement also read: “The WP chief Menon owes an explanation to the party members and the people of the country on why he joined the poll-time cabinet and was contesting in the one-side polls.”
The one-sided election would instigate political violence and fundamentalism leading to a permanent political crisis in the country. Ultimately, smooth function of democracy, sovereignty, and stability of the country would be at stake, observed the two leaders, according to the statement.
They also said Menon’s move had led the party’s leadership on a way to “self-suicidal” Also the party’s ideology, political beliefs as well as unity was on the verge of extinction, they added.
