The Election Commission has received around 1,800 applications of officials and employees for transfer, maternal leave and casual leave following the announcement of polls schedule.
The commission has received applications of 1,695 consultants of the Health Ministry for promotional transfer, EC officials said.
The officials said the commission would approve most applications with careful scrutiny.
The commission would take a hard line to ensure neutrality during polls and even go for reshuffles of officials if necessary for the sake of free and fair election.
A senior EC official seeking anonymity yesterday told the Dhaka Tribune that the EC would approve applications about transfer, promotion and casual leaves after much scrutiny.
The commission examines the applications very carefully and makes sure that the officials related to polls do not transfer without the EC permission even two weeks after election.
According to the article 44E of the Representation of the People Order (RPO), for any kind of transfer and leave, the Election Commission approval would be necessary.
In this regard, the EC sent separate letters to the Public Administration and Cabinet Division not to transfer, promote and issue leave for the officials without permission of the commission.
However, last week, the Health Ministry sent letter to the commission for promoting professors, assistant professors, senior consultants and junior consultants and for transferring them.
The commission approved the transfer order for those not related to the election process.
Police administration sent letter to the EC for transferring around 50 policemen including a police super and 22 police inspectors.
A maximum of them got the approval of the commission.
The 10th parliamentary elections will be held on January 5.
