Intelligence departments of law enforcement agencies have identified 35 suspects in the recent bomb attacks, all belonging to the 18-party opposition alliance.
Forty-nine police stations submitted a list to the Detective Branch of Police yesterday containing names of different BNP, Jubodal, Chhatra Dal, Swechchhasebok Dal and Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists operating in 35 separate wards in the capital.
The report says these activists carry out subversion by hiring thugs to show muscle power to locals and subordinates in their teams.
However, the intelligence officials did not disclose their names as the investigation was still going on.
Yesterday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police officials raided the residence of Anwar Hossain, in the Aftabnagar area of Dhaka, who injured himself while blasting a cocktail in Kataban area on Sunday.
During the raid, police recovered gunpowder, Jihadist books and explosives making materials, says Abu Yousuf, assistant commissioner of DMP.
They suspected that Anwar was associated with some terrorist group, however, he was still under interrogation, he said.
Based on the report submitted by the Intelligence departments, the officials of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) are taking necessary moves to nab the bomb attackers and thwart their activities, said Abu Yousuf.
He said the DMP officials were also preparing a list of criminals based on areas.
Based on the information provided by the arrestees they were preparing the list, he added.
According to DB officials, during the 60-hour countrywide shutdown called by the opposition from October 27, cocktails were blasted at a minimum 250 points inside the capital, injuring around a dozen people.
The unruly criminals targeted civil society members and VIPs, he said.
On the other hand, prices of cocktails have soared in the wake of political violence in the country.
The small-sized cocktails which were previously sold at Tk300 are now being sold at Tk400-Tk500 while the cocktails worth Tk500-Tk700 have increased in value to Tk1,000-Tk1,200.
Jahangir Hossain Matubbor, Deputy Commissioner of DB said incidents of cocktail blasts have increased, threatening the lives of innocents especially minors and the children.
“We are working to trace the criminals and hope that we would able to arrest them shortly after the investigation is over,” he added.
