Throughout last week, people across the country celebrated Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest festival of Muslims, Durga Puja and Laxmi Puja, festivals of the Hindu community and Probarona Purnima, a religious festival of Buddhists amid joyful festivity.
The nation has been enjoying the eid and Durga Puja holidays from last Monday, which ends today. Crowds thronged the recreational centers in the capital like Shishu Park and the National Zoo. Many people also visited different tourist spots across the country including Rangamati, Khagrachari, Bandarban, Sylhet and Cox’s Bazar.
Recreational centers -Shaheed Zia Shishu Park, Dhaka Zoo, Shishu Mela and Fantasy Kingdom have been catering to thousands of visitors, particularly children, since the holiday began. People across the country also visited historic places and tourist spots to celebrate the holidays, our correspondents reported.
Zobaida Iqbal, a mother who came to the Shaheed Zia Shishu Park with her eight-year-old twin daughters said Shishu Park was the place her children enjoyed the most.
“When I was young, I used to visit the park too. I think this park is one suitable place for my children to have a good time,” she said. The Shishu Park staff said they were having trouble handling the huge crowd.
“It is good to see that children are enjoying our rides, but we are facing trouble sometimes to deal with such a huge crowd,” Liakat Mia, a ride operator, said.
Mohammad Zakir Hossain, the deputy assistant director of the park, told the Dhaka Tribune: “We serve 6,000 visitors on average every day, but during the eid holidays, we have been serving tens of thousands of visitors. On Thursday, we had over 33,000 visitors for our 11 rides. We had all the preparations to serve this huge crowd.”
He estimated that the park would draw at least 500,000 people during this five-day vacation.
Tourist spots at Bandarban were filled with thousands of visitors, and it had been difficult for many to find rooms at the local hotels and motels, reported our Bandarban correspondent.
People were enjoying the natural beauties of Nil Giri, various lakes, hills and mountains of Bandarban.
The coastal district of Cox’s Bazar was overcrowded but enjoyable nevertheless, our correspondent reported. Thousands of people went to the largest sea beach in the world to celebrate their holiday.
Tourist businesses in the town expressed their satisfaction and said the crowd was much bigger this year than the last few years.
