Gold prices in the domestic market have once again risen sharply. Following the latest price adjustment, the price of 22-carat gold has increased to Tk 262,440 per bhori, while 21-carat gold has been fixed at Tk 250,484 per bhori.
Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) announced the new prices on Monday, citing a rise in gold prices in the international market as well as an increase in the price of acid gold in the local market.
According to Bajus, due to the increase in international prices of acid gold and silver (pure gold and silver), a meeting of the Bajus Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring was held on Monday, taking the overall situation into account. The committee unanimously decided to implement the new prices of gold and silver in the domestic market from Tuesday.
Under the new pricing structure, the per-gram price of 22-carat cadmium (hallmarked) gold has been set at Tk 22,500. The price of 21-carat cadmium gold has been fixed at Tk 21,475 per gram, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk 18,410 per gram. Under the traditional method, the price of gold has been fixed at Tk 15,140 per gram.
Silver prices have also been increased. Under the revised rates, the per-gram price of 22-carat cadmium (hallmarked) silver is Tk 665, while 21-carat silver is priced at Tk 635 per gram, 18-carat silver at Tk 545 per gram, and silver under the traditional method at Tk 410 per gram.
Bajus further stated that the new prices will remain effective at all jewellery establishments across the country until further notice. At the same time, jewellers have been instructed to collect the government-mandated 5% VAT from customers and deposit it into the state treasury.
The information was confirmed in a statement signed by Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen, Chairman of the Bajus Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring.
