Three-day Youth Leadership Bootcamp to begin in Chittagong

Update : 04 Oct 2013, 01:34 PM

The Youth Leadership Bootcamp 2013, a three-day national residential leadership development programme of Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center (BYLC), is set to begin Saturday at the BRAC Learning Center in Chittagong’s Kazir Dewri area.

At a pre-event press conference held at Chittagong Press Club yesterday, the organisers informed that 100 university students had been selected for the programme from 1,155 applicants from 188 institutions in the country.

They said the bootcamp sessions were designed to equip participants with leadership skills, help improve their communications skills, expose and sensitize them to the realities of the workplace, and prepare them for their careers.

On the first day, the participants will explore their own leadership styles; while the second day’s programmes will allow participants to experience real-world challenges and business practices through field visits to Unilever Bangladesh Ltd, Standard Chartered Bank, AK Khan and Company Ltd, Brac, MM Ispahani Ltd and Western Marine Shipyard Ltd. The third day will help participants articulate their life goals and career aspirations through effective resume and cover letter writing, interview skills and personal action plans.

Ejaj Ahmad, founder and president of BYLC, said the education system in Bangladesh often fell short of providing leadership training to the youth, thus failing to prepare them to be successful in their respective careers.

“The participants of the programme will develop their leadership, problem solving and team work skills and gain practical knowledge about the workplace through their visit to different industries,” he said.

Abdallah Naeefy, program manager of BYLC, Wahid Malek, managing editor of Dainik Azadi and Dr Moinul Islam Mahmud, chairman of equity property management, were present among others at the conference.

US Ambassador to Dhaka Dan Mozena, UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Neal Walker and civil society representatives will be present as guests at the concluding session of the bootcamp on Monday.
