A street show titled “Expression of Faces” by renowned sculptor Hamiduzzaman Khan is being held at Hot Breads, Banani. The show will continue for a month and is a special indulgence for art enthusiasts because they can have some treats and enjoy the beautiful paintings at the same time, because of the venue of the show.
The bakery has dedicated a substantial space for artists to display their creativity since it has been redecorated with the aid of renowned contemporary architect and artist Mustapha Khalid Palash. This is the second exhibition at the bakery and a good number of paintings of unique quality are on display presently in the exhibit named “Expression of Faces,” along with two wood sculptures.
One of the sculptures on display is distinctive and attention grabbing as it is an abstract form of a woman’s physique. Hamiduzzaman Khan’s artworks are on mask-like portraits, which deliver the expression of happiness, horror and melancholy. About the portraits, the artist says: “The inspiration of these paintings is derived from my real life experiences. I have given my interpretation of people and the different facets of life.”
The artist finds that using water-colours is simple and it is easier to express ones inner creativity using this particular medium. Each of the portraits displayed differs from one another and stand out individually.
When talking about the exhibition, the artist states: “I have chosen to work on a single subject and dimension, as I think it is easier to depict a relevant series of message through solo
subjects. The current exposition is the kind of installation in which, each and every piece stands out on its own, at the same time, ties the entire display together.”
“It is fun to work with the portraits, in doing so, I am attempting to hold the mood and expression of people and I really enjoyed the challenge.”
The artist has widely used red and blue in his artworks. Red in the portraits signifies giving life to a painting, and blue has a beautiful harmonic balance that dominates the canvas.
About his pieces at Hot Breads, the artist comments: “I am pleased with this innovative concept. Displaying artworks in such place gives people to appreciate the works and spend a quality time studying the art pieces. Sometimes, it takes a while to comprehend what a painting is trying to communicate, I truly appreciate the initiative of Hot Breads. ”
Hot Breads envisage that baking and cooking is an art form. To embrace the innovative creativity, the bakery shop holds “Street Show,” an exhibition of artworks at its premises. Every month, Hot Bread showcases paintings and crafts by top artists of the country and makes it affordable for young art lovers and collectors, while enjoying the gourmet food. The previous display was on “Doodle World” by Mustapha Khalid Palash.
