The government on Sunday published the gazette notification of the eighth wage board for journalists and employees of newspapers and news agencies. The ministry of information published the gazette on Sunday with a 75% increase in the salaries of journalists.
The eighth wage board will come into effect from September 11.
The eighth wage board was formed on June 18 last year with Justice Kazi Ebadul Haque as its head in accordance with Bangladesh Labour Law 2006.
The seventh wage board was formed and implemented in 2008.
According to the published wage board structure basic salary of journalists enjoying special grade in A category newspapers or news agencies will be TK 35,875 which was earlier TK 20,500 in the seventh wage board.
The basic salary of those working under grade-1 in A category newspapers or news agencies will be TK 31,850 from that of TK 18,200.
Journalists entitled to grade-2 in A category newspapers or news agencies will now get TK 24,106 which was earlier TK 13,775.
Grade-3 enlisted journalists will draw TK 15,925 as basic salary from that of TK 9,100 and grade-4 enlisted journalists will get TK 12,600 replacing the earlier one that was TK 7,200.
The lowest basic salaries of journalists will be TK 10,938 in the same category of newspapers and agencies.
The basic salary of journalists enjoying special grade in B category newspapers or news agencies will stand at TK 31,850 in place of TK 18,200 as per the seventh wage board.
Journalists of grade-1 in B category newspapers or news agencies will receive TK 24,106 as their basic salary which was earlier TK 13,775.
The lowest basic salary of journalists will be TK 9,275 in place of TK 5,300 in the same category of newspapers and agencies.
Basic salary of journalists of special grade in C category newspapers or news agencies will stand at TK 24,106 from that of TK 13,775 as per the seventh wage board.
The basic salary of journalists of grade-1 in this category of newspapers or news agencies will be TK 15,925 which was earlier TK 9,100.
The lowest basic salary of journalists will be TK 7,613 from that of TK 4,350 in this category of newspapers and agencies.
The highest and lowest basic salaries of newly formed D category newspapers and news agencies will be TK 16,100 and TK 5,250 while the highest and lowest basic salaries of newly formed E category newspapers and news agencies will be TK 10,500 and TK 4,725 respectively.
Journalist of special grade in A and B category newspapers will enjoy TK 30,000 and TK 27,000 respectively as house rent while the rest will receive 70% of their basic salaries as house rent for Dhaka city and 65% for other cities.
The lowest paid employees will get 75% of their basic as house rent.
Besides, journalists will also be entitled to group insurances, conveyances allowances, medical allowances, night-shift allowances, outfit allowances, 150% as over times and charge allowances.
