After reaching $100m in software export, BASIS predicted the figure would cross $1bn mark by the year 2021.
“We have just achieved the first milestone of $100m. But our ultimate goal is to reach $1bn which can be possible by 2021,” said Fahim Mashroor, President of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services.
He was addressing a function in Dhaka yesterday organised to celebrate the crossing $100m mark in software export.
In the FY2012-13, the industry earned $101.63m from export registering 43.53% growth from the previous fiscal. It was even higher than the target of $85.69m.
Fahim Mashroor mentioned the software export was among top 10 foreign currency earners in terms of growth in the fiscal.
ICT Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Khan and Director General of Export Promotion Bureau Salahuddin Mahmud, BASIS Vice Presidents Shameem Ahsan and Syed Almas Kabir and Secretary General Russell T Ahmed were also present at the function.
In 2011-12, the country’s software export stood at $70.8m posting 56.8% growth when the figure was $45.3m in the previous year growing at 27.3%.
BASIS leaders said despite the software export had been growing at more than 40% for last couple of years, they were not satisfied as the industry had a potential to mark 100% or even more growth.
