Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad said the Election Commission (EC) is yet to receive the copy of the verdict regarding the cancellation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's registration with the Election Commission (EC).
"I hope to receive the copy of the verdict soon. Only then can we decide whether the registration of Jamaat is legal or not. We do not intend to make any comment before getting the order from the High Court," he told reporters at the EC secretariat on Monday.
On August 1, the High Court declared the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami with the EC as a political party to be illegal. The CEC said the EC wants to hold the upcoming general parliamentary election with the participation of all registered political parties.
He called for cooperation between all political parties for holding the election.
Recently, Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad made a remark that his party would not participate in the next general election under the present EC.
In response to his remark, Kazi Rakibuddin said, "If needed, we would clarify our stance regarding our preparation and activities for holding the upcoming election, upon discussion with everyone."
"We are putting much emphasis on training our officials to hold the upcoming general election in a free, fair and neutral manner," he added.
About holding the much-talked-about split Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) polls, the CEC said the local government and rural development ministry were working on segregation of the two zones. However, they had no information regarding the progress of their work done so far.
