Ruling party’s beneficiaries and civil society representatives are criticising Hefazat-e-Islam as they have taken stance against the nation’s peace, said its chief Shah Ahmed Shafi on Thurday.
In a written statement, he claimed that the ordinary people of the country were supporting Hefazat and stood against the atheists and the so-called civil society representatives.
“The nation is falling in serious crises for drugs, irreligiousness, free mixing of men and women. Our 13-point demands are meant to save the people from these. But the government supported by atheists avoided our demands and is pushing the country towards a dangerous situation.”
He also held the atheists responsible for the recent events in different Muslim countries including Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Syria.
After analysing the previous and present consequences of incidents, Shafi observed that Bangladesh too was not out of such risks. “Here Allah, the Prophet (SM), the Qur’an and Islam are attacked under state patronisation. The people wearing Islamic attires and having beard are mocked while the innocent Islamic scholars and common Muslims are tortured, sued and jailed,” claimed the Islamist leader.
Supported by the opposition parties and ruling party ally Jatiya Party, Hefazat has been demonstrating since February to “protect Islam from the hands of atheists.” The Hathazari-based organisation comprises students and teachers of Qawmi madrasas, and leaders of 18-party opposition alliance in its central and other committees.
