Update : 24 Jul 2013, 03:41 PM

Advance tickets for ‘BRTC Eid Sheba Service’ will be on sale from August 1, eight days ahead of Eid-ul-fitr.

The tickets will be available at the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTC)’s Motijheel, Joar Shahara, Kallayanpur, Mirpur and Phulbaria depots in the capital.

Ticket price has been fixed by the government. If any staff is found to collect extra money from a passenger, stern action would be taken against him and the lease would be cancelled, said BRTC high officials.

The special service will start from August 4 and will continue till three days after Eid.

For the Eid Seba Service, a total of 550 buses, both single and double decked, will be travelling from the capital to other districts and 1,000 buses will be in operation in different inter-district routes.

The BRTC authority said the 88 AC buses which have been launched recently, will be included in the Eid special service, if needed to meet the demand.

A help desk is currently in operation at BRTC’s head office at Motijheel depot for serving the customers with information and queries. (Contact no- 9564361)

A sub-control room will be in operation from August 4 at the Motijheel depot (Contact no- 9333803).

The authority has advised the Chief and Leasers of the units to mark every bus under their unit with the sticker reading ‘BRTC Eid Seba Service.’

Nikhil Ranjan Roy, director (Admin and Operation) of BRTC told the Dhaka Tribune, “The Eid special service will be available at all the districts where BRTC is in operation. Buses for the service will be allocated at least 10-15 days before Eid.”

“We hope that the homebound people will travel by BRTC without any hassle. We will soon publish the details of the Eid special service in our website at www.brtc.gov.bd. Anyone can avail information about the service by logging into the site,” he said.

Currently 24 new AC buses have been introduced by BRTC in the capital, especially to ease commuters’ crisis before iftaar hour and office hours in the morning during Ramadan. l
