The suspension of Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) facility in the US market could be an opportunity for Bangladesh to become the number one apparel exporter in the world, said US Ambassador in Dhaka, Dan W Mozena.
“The world would be sick of Bangladesh if it sees one more accident like Rana Plaza or Tazreen Fashions. So, the GSP suspension will help Bangladesh make sure that this type of accident never takes place,” Mozena told journalist after visiting Meghna Group of Industries at Meghna Ghat in Narayanganj.
Assuring that the USA would help Bangladesh in becoming the top apparel exporter beating current leader China, Mozena also said: “Just ensure that never again a Rana Plaza, never again a Tazreen fire will happen.”
“Bangladesh’s GSP status was suspended, not cancelled. It can be reviewed,” he said.
