Mobile operators have been asked to exercise much cautions in replacing SIM cards of customers as there are reports that some have withdrawn others’ SIM cards by producing fake evidences.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission on Thursday said it had received such allegations of forgery which put the real users into trouble.
It advised the operators to replace SIM cards at the presence of real user.
In case of mobile financial service providers, SIM cards will be replaced with prior approval of the concerned providers.
At present, more than 80 thousand agents of different mobile financial service providers are rendering the service across the country using specific mobile numbers that are considered as their account number.
Of them, bKash alone deals with around 60 thousand agents.
“We also found some allegations from the retailers and BTRC have done a good job for us,” said Kamal Quadir, CEO of bKash Ltd.
He said his company got 40 allegations of SIM card forgery from their agents.
Since the agents’ mobile numbers are considered their account numbers, so the unauthorised persons could access to those accounts by having SIM cards replaced, he said.
Zakiul Islam, senior director (government relation) of Banglalink said: “This is an excellent initiative to stop SIM forgeries and we will comply with the BTRC direction.”
