M Bodiuzzaman new ACC chief

M Bodiuzzaman, who has been serving as the interim chief of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) since Monday, have received permanent appointment as the anti-graft body’s new chairman following a cabinet division’s order late Wednesday night.

Following an earlier cabinet division order, he was appointed as the interim chairman of the commission on Monday since the ACC’s recent past chairman Ghulam Rahman completed his tenure of four years on June 23.

In a gazette notification, the government made the appointment under section 5 (1) of the Anti Corruption Commission Act 2004. As the ACC chairman, Bodiuzzaman will now have rank, pay, perquisites and status of an Appellate Division judge of the Supreme Court (SC).

In a separate gazette notification, former National Board of Revenue chairman and Internal Resources Division Secretary Nasir Uddin Ahmed made the ACC commissioner under section 6 of the Anti Corruption Commission Act 2004. As the ACC commissioner, he will now have pay, allowance and other benefits of a High Court Division judge.

On June 16, a five member search committee, headed by thSC Appellate Division Justice Foyez Siddiqi, was formed to select a new chairman of the graft-busting agency. The other members of the committee were: High Court judge Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury, chairman of the Public Service Commission Ahmedul Huq Choudhury, Comptroller and Auditor General Masud Ahmed, and a retired cabinet secretary M Abdul Aziz.

On April 30, 2009, the government appointed Ghulam Rahman, then Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission chairman, as the ACC chairman who has completed his tenure of four years on June 23, 2013.
