Bombs hurled at FM’s house

Unidentified miscreants hurled three crude bombs at the Eskaton Road official residence of Foreign Minister Dipu Moni early Tuesday.

Police said two of the bombs exploded in front of the residence and one on the rooftop around 5:20am.

The minister’s family members, including her husband Tawfique Newaz, were in the house during the attack. But, none, including her son and daughter, were hurt in the incident, said Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Division Maruf Hasan Sarder.

The minister, who was on her way to Brussels, made a stopover in London when she heard the news over phone, he said.

“It is not clear who actually threw the bombs,” he said adding that a team of bomb disposal unit of the CID collected samples from the spot for investigation.

Talking to reporters, a security guard of the building, Azmal Ali said two youths on a black motorbike hurled the bombs and left the scene quickly.

No arrest has been made in connection with the blasts so far.

Monirul Islam Kabir, public relation officer of the foreign ministry, said generally two police members look after the security of the Pararashtra Bhaban.

The blasts took place when they were shifting duties, he added.
