Update : 09 Aug 2016, 01:25 AM
The additional session judge of Chittagong will have to explain the reason within two weeks before the court of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice JBM Hassan which passed the order yesterday. The High Court passed the order while hearing the bail plea of Foyez Uddin Ahmed, an accused in the murder case that was filed with Sandip police station almost 23 years ago. The High Court also asked the trial court to dispose of the case within three months. In August 1993, the murder case was filed against six persons for killing 30-year-old Abbas Uddin. Later in October, police submitted charge sheet against them. The trial started in 1999 but the state could only present five of their 25 witnesses. Foyez was arrested in May this year. He then moved a bail petition with the lower court which was rejected. Later he moved with the High Court against the bail rejection order. Assistant Attorney General Md Shahidul Islam Khan told reporters that the court in a rule asked why the accused person’s bail will not be granted. The court gave two months to give explanations. The court also said that if the investigation officer of the case fails to produce witnesses before the trial court, the court’s judge may take steps against him.
