A parliamentary watchdog has asked for compensation for the small businesses affected by the torching and looting that took place the during Hefazat-e-Islam’s “Dhaka Siege” programme on Sunday. He asked that each of the businessmen be given Tk25,000.
Condemning the wanton destruction that took place in the city on Sunday, the parliamentary standing committee on disaster management recommended that the government come to the aid of the small businessmen, who have now become bankrupt.
“We have unanimously recommended providing Tk25,000 each to the vendors and small businessmen affected by the Hefazat destruction,” committee chairman Anwarul Haque said after the meeting.
Haque said the committee members urged the government to get information on those affected as soon as possible and to provide them with financial support.
AH Mahmud Ali, the disaster management minister also agreed with the committee members, saying the government would do whatever was possible to assist the vendors and the small businessmen.
