Savar death toll crosses 700

The death toll from the deadly building collapse in Savar has reached 709, according to the Directorate of Inter-Services Public Relations.

The police control room, set up at the site of the collapse, however said the official count from the district administration was 697.

Executive Magistrate Iqbal Hossain from the Dhaka District Administration confirmed the number to Dhaka Tribune.

The police control room also informed that 35 bodies have been kept at the playground of the Adharchandra School nearby.

They also said another 47 bodies would be handed over to the hospital morgues – 28 to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and 19 to Mitford Hospital.

Some 2,500 people have so far been rescued alive from the April 24 collapse.

Meanwhile, about 60-65 shop owner of the collapsed building form a human chain in front of the wreckage Rana plaza demanding compensation on Tuesday morning.
