Update : 11 Apr 2013, 12:26 PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia on Thursday greeted each other ahead of the Bengali New Year 1420, reports UNB.   On behalf of the Prime Minister, her protocol officer SK Aktar Hossain handed over the greetings card of the ‘Pahela Baishakh’ to opposition leader’s personal secretary ASM Saleh Ahmed at about 12:00 noon, said PM’s Special Assistant (media) Mahbubul Hoque Shakil.   Reciprocating the gesture, opposition leader’s assistant personal secretary Suratuzzaman handed over the greeting card to the Prime Minister’s protocol officer SK Aktar Hossain at the PM’s Office at about 1:40pm, BNP chairperson’s press wing member Syrul Kabir Khan told UNB. The nation will celebrate the Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bangla calendar, on Sunday amid traditional fanfare and festivity. The chiefs of the country’s two major political parties greet each other during the two Eids and Pahela Baishakh, though they have long been not in talking terms.
