The Bangladesh Medical Students’ Society (BMSS) recently hosted its fourth National General Assembly (NGA) and Scientific Conference 2018, under the theme “Universal Health Coverage.”
The event was organised at Daffodil International University’s Dhanmondi campus on October 5. Over 150 medical students from all over Bangladesh participated in the assembly.
Nuruzzaman, CEO of Skill Jobs and Daffodil Family, inaugurated the event on behalf of Daffodil Family Chairman Sabur Khan.
At the assembly, separate training sessions were held for the six standing committees of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA).
As an official member organization of IFMSA, BMSS maintains the operations of the standing committees in Bangladesh.
The titular session on “Universal Health Coverage” was led by Fahtiha Nasreen, chairperson of the NGA 2018 Organizing Committee.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Director General Abul Kalam Azad, National Consultant of UNICEF at DGHS Be-Nazir Ahmed, Team Leader at WHO and Bangladesh Country Officer Dr Valeria De Oliveira Cruz, Ibrahim Cardiac [Hospital & Research Institute] CEO Dr MA Rashid, Vice Chairperson of the Public Health Foundation of Bangladesh & Head of the Department of Community Medicine at Bangladesh Medical College Dr Sharmeen Yeasmin, and Head of the public health department at Daffodil International University Prof Dr. Harun-Ar-Rashid addressed the session, among others.
Kazi Saminur Rahman, Mantasha Binte Borha, Sadia Akhtar, Subah Zareen, and Antara Raidah Rashid were nominated as the best ambassadors.
Fahim Bhuiyan Abak, Farah Rashed, Nila Khan & Rakhia Sultana Ishita were awarded with appreciation certificates.
Earlier, a 3 day-long event was held where seven workshops facilitated by national and international trainers were organized.
BMSS organised the NGA-2018 to act as a medium for exchanging ideas and information on important scientific and health issues among medical students across the nation. Dhaka Tribune was the media partner for the event.
The BMSS is dedicated to the improvement of health care and health care delivery systems as well as medical education. It is an independent, non-political, non-profit volunteer-based welfare organization for Bangladesh’s medical and dental students.
BMSS has been a full member of the IFMSA since March 2013.
