17th Convocation of IUB held

The 17th Convocation of the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) was held on Thursday, March 24 2016 at the IUB campus located in Bashundhara, Dhaka. Hon’ble Chancellor, Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Education conferred the degrees upon the graduating students. Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Bir Bikram, Adviser to the Hon’ble Prime Minister for Energy, Power and Mineral Resources was the convocation speaker. Professor Abdul Mannan, chairman, UGC also attended the convocation as a special guest.

A total of 1388 graduating students from various programmes of the university attended the convocation, 954 of whom were undergraduates and 434 were  graduates.

Mahtab Fahim, a student of the School of Business was awarded with the honour of being the valedictorian this year. He also received the ‘Chancellor’s Gold Medal’.

Four students received awards for excellence for their outstanding performances in various fields. Mahtab Fahim for academic excellence, Saquiba Bintay Ali for culture, Salman Ahmed for community service and Hisham Rahman was nominated for sports. Saquiba Bintay Ali also received an award for becoming an ‘All rounder.’  Moreover, 105 IUBians received special accolades for their academic achievements. Yamila Yousuf was awarded special recognition for attaining highest CGPA 4.00 in her Master’s of Business Administration.

Among others, Rashed Chowdhury, chairman of the board of trustees, IUB, A Matin Chowdhury, chairman of IUB founding trust and vice chancellor Prof M Omar Rahman also spoke at the convocation.
