Dhaka-Delhi to combat ‘anti-progress’ manifestations

Update : 05 Mar 2016, 07:20 PM

Bangladesh and India have stressed combating “anti-progress” manifestations to take forward the relations to the next level.

Both countries also put emphasis on reinforcing their cooperation in the field of maritime security.

“Both countries may keep the blue economy at the centre of maritime cooperation,” said a joint deceleration titled Dhaka Declaration after the two-day Seventh Bangladesh-India Friendship Dialogue that concluded last night.

The two countries laid emphasis on developing further shared interests in the preservation of natural resources and improving security in the Indian Ocean, evoking the historical bonds that exist between the two countries.

This cooperation, the deceleration reads, is expected to provide an opportunity for the maritime forces of both Indian Ocean nations to work more closely together on a comprehensive perspective.

It said much emphasis would be laid on seabed exploration for hydrocarbons, marine services, seafood processing and aquaculture, fishing, deep ocean water application, seaport related activities, marine renewable energies, exchange of expertise and ocean knowledge.

The dialogue viewed that Bangladesh and India may exchange, develop, and improve jointly quality of literary and artistic creation, confirm and commend “values of the true, good and beautiful” and criticise backward and the weak things and combat anti-progress manifestation.

The next round of dialogue will reconvene in New Delhi, India by the end of 2016 or early 2017 to conclusively discuss the identified intervention areas.

In the last two days, ministers, economists, diplomats, business leaders and senior officials from Bangladesh and India came together and assessed and measured how far India and Bangladesh have reached in terms of verifiable progress made so far. The theme of the dialogue was “Ground Rules of a New Paradigm.”
