HC orders compensation for Jihad's family

The High Court has ordered the government to pay compensation to the family of Jihad, who died after falling into an abandoned well in the capital in December, 2014.

The bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Kazi Mohammad Ejarul Haque Akondo passed the order after disposing of a writ petition on Thursday afternoon.

The court said it would fix the compensation amount in the full verdict, writ petitioner's lawyer Abdul Halim told the Dhaka Tribune.

The four-year-old boy was killed after falling into an unprotected pipe hole dug by railway authorities at Shahjahanpur Railway Colony on December 26, 2014.

Children’s Charity Bangladesh Foundation submitted the petition on December 28 seeking the court’s directives on providing the victim’s family Tk30 lakh as compensation.
