DMP: 4-tier security system at Ekushey Boi Mela 

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police authorities claimed that they have a four-tier security arrangement for the Amar Ekushey Boi Mela visitors as well as the bloggers. Besides, there will have special security for foreigners and their stalls in the fair. Even a female police team has been assigned there to prevent sexual harassment.

SC upholds HC stay on Kalyanpur slum eviction 

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has upheld the High Court stay order on the eviction of Kalyanpur slum in the capital. The apex court also issued an order to dispose of the HC rule regarding the eviction within four weeks.

Shanto's ton leads junior Tigers to 256 

The Bangladesh Under-19 Team have set 257-run target for Scotland in the Group A encounter of ICC Under-19 World Cup tournament. Nazmul Hossain Shanto was unbeaten on 113 runs from 117 balls. Mehedi Hasan Miraz scored 51 runs while Saif Hassan scored 49.

3 burnt in fire from gas pipeline leak 

Three members of a family have sustained burn injuries as a fire erupted from gas pipeline leak in Kolabagan area of the capital. The injured are Md Arman, 40, a private bank official, his wife Afroza Begum, 35, teacher of Dhaka College and their son Triman, 6. They were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital's burn unit.

Ferry service on Paturia-Daulatdia route resumes 

The authorities concerned have resumed ferry movement on Paturia-Daulatdia route in the Padma River after about three and half hours. The temporary ferry disruption started from 7am Sunday and remained continued till around 10:15am. Normalcy returned to the service when the visibility amid fog improved.

Michael Clarke to come out of retirement 

Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has announced he will come out of retirement in February. Clarke, who quit after last summer's Ashes, will play for Sydney grade team Western Suburbs on February 20-21.

Syria opposition in Geneva for talks 

The main Syrian opposition group has arrived in Geneva, a day after backing down from their threat to boycott the UN-sponsored peace talks. But a spokesman said they stood by their demand for an end to air strikes and blockades before they will negotiate with the Syrian government.
