Poll: 64% think Bangladesh in right direction
Sixty-four percent of Bangladeshi people believe that the country is heading in the right direction and most of the respondents are satisfied with the state of the economy, says a poll conducted by IRI's Center for Insights in Survey Research. According to the new national poll conducted from October 30 to November 19, 2015, almost all of the respondents who remain positive about the direction of their country, thinks that it has seen significant improvements in the fields of education, transportation and the economy.
1st female commander leads parade in police week
A female commander, first ever in the country, has led a parade in The Police Week-2016. Chandpur Superintendent of Police Shamsun Nahar became part of the history on Tuesday with the parade. Earlier in 2008, she led a parade as deputy commander while such trend was prevalent in the force.
4 missing in Meghna trawler capsize
At least four people have gone missing as a trawler capsized in Meghna river of Chandpur. Witnesses said the trawler sank after an oil-laden cargo vessel hit it around 8:30am Tuesday. They said the trawler was carrying over 100 people. Of them, 50 to 60 people managed to swim ashore.
Another victim of Gazipur factory blast dies
Another victim, who was injured in the boiler blast in Gazipur, has died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital. Kamal Hossain died at the hospital's burn unit around 7:15am Tuesday, taking the death toll to seven in the incident.
War crimes suspect dies at DMCH
Suspected war criminal from Brahmanbari Md Emdad Hossain died due to old-age complications at Dhaka Medical College Hospital early Tuesday. Emdad, 80, died around 1:15am while undergoing treatment under Medicine Department of the hospital, said DMCH police outpost in-charge Mozammel Haque.
Psychiatrist, 3 of his family killed in Comilla road crash
A psychiatrist along with three other members of his family has been killed when a bus rammed into his private car in Daudkandi upazila. The deceased are Associate Professor of National Mental Health Institute Dr Fazlul Bari,45, his wife Asma-ul-Husna, 35, daughter Fahmida,10, and their domestic help Sheema,13.
