Bangladesh needs to include the private sector and research communities in the process of chalking out plans for achieving its post-2015 agenda that include sustainable development goals, reducing climate vulnerability and disaster risk, speakers at a discussion said yesterday.
Speakers at ActionAid Bangladesh’s programme titled ‘Multilogue on Post 2015 Development Framework: Demystifying the practicality in Bangladesh Context’ in Dhaka, said a better environment for businesses would expedite attainment of the middle-income country status.
Dr Saleemul Huq, director of International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCAD), said: “The cooperation between public and private sector is better now but the situation should be improved further to ensure a brighter future for the country.”
He lauded government initiatives to tackle climate change impacts, saying, “Bangladesh is very much aware about the negative impacts of global warming, which are being considered as one of the major barriers to its post-2015 agenda.”
Senior vice-president of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Humayun Rashid urged the government to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the industries, saying this would help Bangladesh attain its middle-income status.
