Every resident of Dhaka should play the role of mayor to make the city a liveable and healthy place, the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation Sayeed Khokon has said.
“Only one mayor or some other officials cannot make the city a liveable place. Individual roles should be played to keep the city as clean as everyone's home,” he told an event organised to launch the Clean Year 2016 campaign.
Addressing crowds at Dhaka University's Bot-tola, the mayor said a total 275 city streets would be renovated this month, while around 200 dustbins would also be set up in all the wards within the next three or four months.
“I will take care of the city's streets and also wash away the dusts of the city,” Khokon said.
He also urged every citizen to take part in a symbolic cleaning campaign scheduled for February 14.
Also speaking at the programme, DU Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique said every person should keep a clean mind and ideology for cleanness. He also urged all to view the capital as their own home and play their own individual roles.
