PM to meet striking uni teachers Monday

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to meet on Monday the public university teachers, who are striking over pay scale grievances.

Confirming the news, president of the Dhaka University Teachers Association (Duta) Farid Uddin Ahmed told the Dhaka Tribune: “The meeting is scheduled to be held at Ganabhaban around 4:30pm Monday.

“The representatives of Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association (FBUTA) and the Duta will attend the meeting.”

Earlier on January 12, the second day of their indefinite strike, the striking teachers had urged the prime minister to meet with them, even if only briefly.

The picketing professors, who demand the removal of “pay disparities,” are calling for an immediate review of the eighth national pay scale.
