Eddie Redmayne recieves yet another nod for the BAFTA award for the second year in a row after winning plaudits for his role in The Danish Girl.
The shortlist for the prizes were announced at the BAFTA headquarters by Stephen Fry and actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw, in London.
Redmayne won a BAFTA and Oscar last year for The Theory Of Everything, and is to go against Leonardo DiCaprio in the best actor category. Bryan Cranston for Trumbo, Matt Damon for The Martian and Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs are also named in the same category.
Starring in The Revenant, DiCaprio has been nominated for a BAFTA three times. He never won any of them.
Colin Firth remains the only soul to have won for consecutive years, for A Single Man in 2009 and The King’s Speech in 2010.
Redmayne’s co-star Alicia Vikander is also nominated for best actress, against Saoirse Ronan for Brooklyn and Brie Larson for Room.
Vikander also received two BAFTA nominations after her role as supporting actress in Ex Machina.
“The Danish Girl and Ex Machina have been such gifts of projects for me,” said Vikander. “The fact that both of these projects were driven from the UK, with a predominantly British cast and crew and that both these films have been so generously recognised by BAFTA today, makes this even more poignant for me.”
The BAFTA awards will be handed out on February 14 at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
