A mild cold wave has started to sweep across the northern part of the country, as well as the Srimangal region, bringing the temperature down several notches.
According to Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the cold wave started yesterday and the lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 8.5 degrees Celsius in Dimla, Nilphamari.
The cold wave will continue for the next few days and sweep over Rajshahi, Dhaka and Khulna divisions, the met office added.
The cold wave is causing chilly wind and dense fog in the affected regions, disrupting day-to-day lives of people living in those areas, especially making life difficult for poor people in the rural areas.
In the capital city, the lowest temperature was recorded at 13.3 degrees Celsius yesterday, but the weather felt colder due to the temperature drop by 2-3 degrees in 24 hours.
The met office further said one or two more mild or moderate cold waves may sweep over north, northeast, west and central Bangladesh at the end of this month.
According to the met office, mercury level between 8-10 degrees Celsius is considered to be mild cold wave, while 6-8 degrees indicates moderate cold wave and below 6 degrees indicate severe cold wave.
