HC questions legality of 34th BCS results

Update : 23 Nov 2015, 07:17 PM

The High Court yesterday asked the government to explain why the final result of the 34th BCS examination will not be declared illegal.

The High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Mostafa Jaman Islam asked the chairman of the Public Service Commission, its member, examination controller, education secretary, law secretary, public administration and three other defendants to came up with the answer to the rule within four weeks.

Accepting a writ petition by two candidates, the court following a primary hearing also asked why the authorities will not hold a fresh viva examination to publish a fresh result, said their lawyer Md Nur-Uz-Sadik.

Two job seekers, Jafar Sharif and Al Masum Refat filed the writ petition with the court last week. The two had passed the written examination but failed the viva.

In the writ petition, they argued that in the final result the BPSC did not publish the selected candidates’ names separately following the quota system and merit list, which is a breach of law. Besides, according to the rule, they were supposed to appoint 1% physically challenged candidates which means they need to appoint 21 candidates. But they recommended only three physically challenged candidates for job.
