War criminal Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid's lawyer Gazi MH Tamim has said they have not yet got permission from the Dhaka Central Jail authorities to meet the Jamaat-e-Islami leader.
He told the Dhaka tribune on Friday morning.
The lawyer said: “Yesterday [Thursday] evening, we sought permission from the jail authorities to meet Mujahid.
“The chances of getting permission is low because they have not yet given us any reply regarding the matter.”
Meanwhile, security measures have been intensified in the area.
Patrol Inspector Krishno Podo Sarkar told the Dhaka Tribune that there were not even allowing the rickshaws to park near the jail and have asked the pedestrians not to gather in front of it.
On Thursday evening, Mujahid’s lawyer Tamim requested the jail authorities to allow a five-member team of lawyers to meet the Jamaat leader on Friday morning to decide the next course of action.
On the same day, the jail read out the full verdict of the apex court against Mujahid at jail.
The Appellate Division bench, which on Wednesday had dismissed the two review petitions filed against their death sentences, released the full text in the evening.
Later, Mujahid’s lawyer Gazi MH Tamim requested the jail authorities to allow a five-member team of lawyers to meet the Jamaat leader on Friday morning to decide the next course of action.
On July 17, 2013, the International Crimes Tribunal 2 ordered to hang Mujahid by the neck for the massacre of intellectuals including scientists, academics and journalists, and his involvement in the murder and torture of Hindus in Faridpur during the war.
Mujahid appealed against the tribunal verdict on August 11, 2013 and the hearing began on April 29 this year. On June 16, 2015, the Appellate Division delivered its judgement, upholding death for the Jamaat secretary general.
